It's my pleasure to welcome you to the web site of Allied Community Services and its subsidiaries: Allied Rehabilitation Centers and Allied Community Resources. We have been serving individuals with developmental disabilities, mental retardation, physical handicaps and acquired brain injuries since the early 1960s.

Our current corporate structure, which we refer to as the "Allied Group," became effective July 1, 1999.
Many people know us by one or more of our former names, but are not entirely familiar with Allied Community Services and its subsidiaries. Let me explain our corporate structure.

Our agency was originally incorporated on October 20, 1964 as the "Enfield Association For Retarded Children." We operated for many years as the "Greater Enfield A.R.C." and in the 1990s as "Greater Enfield Allied Rehabilitation Centers."

Allied Community Services is our "Parent Corporation." It is a not-for-profit tax exempt corporation that provides overall management and administration for the Allied Group. This includes Financial Services, Human Resources and Marketing support. There are two subsidiaries under Allied Community Services:

Allied Rehabilitation Centers, a not-for-profit tax exempt subsidiary, provides program services and residential support to our consumers. These are funded by contracts and grants awarded by the state Department of Mental Retardation, various state and federal agencies and local businesses.

Our corporate structure reinforces the services we've been providing since 1964 and puts the Allied Group in a position to take full advantage of growth and diversification opportunities. As a result, we will continue to be a leader in the human services field for many years to come.
Today, Allied Community Services and its subsidiaries serve approximately 4,290 consumers. Our staff comprises more than 165 employees working in Enfield, East Windsor, South Windsor, and Bloomfield and Alabama. Our operating budget is approximately $8 million. Our service area covers the entire state of Connecticut, parts of Western Massachusetts and Northwest Alabama.
Our philosophy of caring is summed up in our agency's Vision Statement, which is "Creating Opportunities for People." Every member of our organization is focused on assisting our consumers in ways that are positive, developmental and supportive of individual choice. Our belief is that consumers should have opportunities to live and work as independently as possible. In addition, they should have opportunities to establish positive relationships with others living in the community. Our team of dedicated, creative and caring employees is fully involved in the personal development of our consumers. I'm pleased to say that parents and guardians of our consumers frequently come to me with praise for the work of our staff members.
Thank you very much for visiting the web site of one of New England's leading human service agencies. I hope you will spend a few minutes with us to learn about our history, philosophy, people and services. If you have any questions or would like more information about Allied Community Services and its subsidiaries, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely, Dean M. Wern President & CEO
