Transitional

Satisfying and sustained employment is a critical aspect for any adult, but for the special needs learner, it demonstrates the ability to participate fully in our society.  The years of education and training are of little value to special needs learners unless they become vocationally productive and partially or completely self sufficient.

Services

Program

The Transitional Services Program at Allied Rehabilitation Centers provides information that educators and special needs support personnel can use to enhance the special needs student's transition from school to satisfying, productive employment in the competitive job market.

In addition to providing fixed time assessments, our transition program can also provide long term vocational training and job placement.  This training occurs in our own facilities as well as in community based settings.
Allied Rehabilitation Centers' Transitional Services Program provides:

L.I.F.E. Program  (Learning Independence Fulfilling Experiences)
The L.I.F.E. Program offers services for students who have met graduation requirements and are receiving services until they turn 21.  The program integrates vocational skills with daily living skills to further enhance the potential for independent or supported living while including opportunities for recreation.

Career Exploration/Employability Skills
The Transitional Services Program assists individuals in identifying employment interests and aptitudes.  The individual learns job seeking skills, experiences community based job shadowing and training.  This process allows individuals to gain real work experience in an area best suited to them.

Transitional Tuesdays
Transitional Tuesdays offer school systems a chance to provide job exploration to their students.  Each session highlights a different business and employment opportunities by touring the company and shadowing employees.  High school students can broaden their knowledge of the work force while increasing their opportunities for socialization with other students.

Agency Collaboration
Members of the Transitional Services team of professional staff attend PPT meetings to offer input in the development of the Individual Transition Plan.  The Transitional Services team also serves as liaison with support agencies (DMR, DMH, BRS, SSA).
